Digg had a good article today (surprisingly not at all technology related) from the Chicago Tribune where they actually talked to legitimate Socialists in the USA about McCain’s calling Obama a “Socialist” after his comment about “spreading the wealth around” being good for everybody. I’ve had several friends post really hateful comments on my Facebook notes and other places about how Obama is going to dip his hands into their pockets and steal their hard-earned wealth to “spread it around,” simply because they don’t understand the actual economic policies.

The things they’re mad at Obama about are things he didn’t come up with. The government already unequally taxes the wealthy more than the poor. It’s called a tax bracket. Look into it. And taxes have been going to public services for years, Obama is just trying to get us more bang for our buck and raising taxes higher may actually prove to be a good thing, even if we end up whining about it. But let’s face it, when have we not whined about taxes and the high price of… anything.

Either way, Socialists say McCain is full of crap, and doesn’t actually know what the word means:

“Obama is about as far from being a socialist as Joe The Plumber is from being a rocket scientist,” said Darrell West, director of governance studies at the Brookings Institution. “I think it’s hard for McCain to call Obama a socialist when George Bush is nationalizing banks.”

And this from Bruce Carruthers, a sociology professor at Northwestern University: “Obama is like a center-liberal Democrat, and he is certainly not looking to overthrow capitalism. My goodness, he wouldn’t have the support of someone like The Wizard of Omaha, Warren Buffet, if he truly was going to overthrow capitalism.”

It’s all just a big 11th Hour tactic (or is it a strategy, *nudge nudge*?) to recall people’s feelings about the Cold War and what socialism was in Russia. I’m not saying I’m for communism or socialism, but at least get your facts straight.

And, while we’re at it, how about Mr. Colin Powell stepping in to say thumbs up to Obama? Bravo.

This wasn’t exactly an unbiased post, it was definitely bad news about McCain’s continuing blunders and name-calling. However, I want to point out that we should support whoever gets elected, all said and done it’s a tough choice between both majority candidates. I’m a Christian, and we’re called to pray for our leaders, and if McCain wins somehow, I will pray for him to make wise decisions and pray for our country to still come together and be the united country we’re supposed to be. Same for Obama.
