From The Fayetteville Observer:

Services: At a later date.

Survived by: Daughter, Cathy VanCura; sisters, Delphine Nixon, Quinnell Ksienizek, Mattice Townsend and Maybel Bedwell; brothers, L.H., Clayton, Vernon and Holis; five grandchildren; and longtime companion, Maxine Satterfield.”

Obituaries never really do people justice. They don’t tell you how much the people loved them. You don’t know if “Survived By” ever really means they were loved. Mr. Mel was loved, greatly. He was selfless, generous, and funny. My grandma is Maxine Satterfield, quoted as “longtime companion” in the obituary. They lived together for more than 20 years. He was like a grandparent to me, and for all intents and purposes, was. He went on to be with Jesus yesterday morning. See you one day, Mr. Mel.
